Painting Light
Painting light has been the continual exploration in my art over the years. Light and how to capture it influences all of my paintings decisions such as composition, tone, colour and shadows. I have found that the type of light is key to working out how to manage colour and shadow it could be natural light, early morning light, midday sun, evening light, electric light or multiple light sources.
My mindfulness art practice.
My mindfulness practice started in January 2022 when I participated in an online course taught by the fabulous V. Over the years I had dipped in to mindfulness but had not been able to sustain a regular practice. I felt the time was right to change this.
Online learning at the Norfolk Painting School
My journey in oils began when my husband bought me a course for Christmas at the Norfolk Painting School called ‘Simply Oils’. What a revelation it was! I had always had a curiosity about oils and often used to go into my local art shop to look at the tubes of paint and wish I had the confidence to get started.
‘Quiet Moments’
‘Quiet Moments’ is a series of 15cm square oil paintings which were inspired by my visits to Charleston House and my interest in domestic interiors. I wanted a series of paintings which focused on those moments of quiet calm and reflection, the drinking of tea in the morning, your favourite cup, the moments of noticing the objects around us.
