Rich muted colours, textiles and interiors influenced by Bonnard, Matisse and the Bloomsbury Group.
I am a still life and floral painter, drawing inspiration from domestic life, and the flowers growing in my Kent garden. I have a degree in Textile Design from Leeds University which instilled in me a passion for pattern and colour. My work celebrates the beauty in the everyday. ‘I often find myself wandering through my garden and house selecting items to paint, a bunch of daisies a vase or a favourite cup.’
My love for vintage textiles and homeware infuses my paintings with a nostalgic charm, taking the mundane to the extraordinary. Whether portraying a teacup or a vase of flowers, these everyday objects have a central role in my compositions. My work is about relationships. Vases are often family heirlooms used by my mother and grandmother and the flowers remind me summers spend in their gardens. Often the same pieces appearing and reappearing in my paintings over and over again like members of my family.
The selection of objects, the patterned plates, teacups, milk jugs and embroidered tablecloths is a joy to me, the arrangements and placement of these on a surface and how it tells a story to the viewer. Who is taking tea? What will happen next? Light and how it falls and creates shapes, shadow, highlights and mood, morning light, cool light, evening glow, dappled light and how this effects your senses. All these play an important part in how I work.
While I predominantly sell my work through art shows, galleries, and craft fairs, I cherish the opportunity to connect with fellow makers and customers alike. For me, these events are not just about selling my paintings—they're about forging meaningful connections, sharing stories.
